In 2023, we had complete survey coverage across the state of Wyoming (Figure 22.1).

22.1 Wyoming Statewide: Total

Wyoming Statewide: Total

We obtained results for Wyoming Statewide: Total by compiling and jointly analyzing data from 37 strata.

Field technicians completed 233 of 236 planned surveys (99%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 2883 point counts within the 233 surveyed grid cells between May 24 and July 21. They detected 210 bird species, including 54 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 221 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 67 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 118 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout Wyoming Statewide: Total for 226 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 70 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 134 species.

22.2 All Other Lands in Wyoming

All Other Lands in Wyoming

We obtained results for All Other Lands in Wyoming by compiling and jointly analyzing data from four strata.

Field technicians completed 45 of 46 planned surveys (98%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 508 point counts within the 45 surveyed grid cells between May 24 and June 29. They detected 144 bird species, including 29 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 196 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 57 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 58 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout All Other Lands in Wyoming for 197 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 58 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 70 species.

22.3 Wyoming BCR 10

Wyoming BCR 10: Total

We obtained results for Wyoming BCR 10: Total by compiling and jointly analyzing data from 23 strata.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 2012 point counts within the 158 surveyed grid cells between May 25 and July 21. They detected 193 bird species, including 47 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 203 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 60 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 101 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout Wyoming BCR 10: Total for 208 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 63 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 114 species.

All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 10

We obtained results for All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 10 by compiling and analyzing data from one stratum.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 152 point counts within the 15 surveyed grid cells between May 25 and June 29. They detected 110 bird species, including 14 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 165 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 39 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 29 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 10 for 167 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 41 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 33 species.

Wyoming BCR 16: Total

We obtained results for Wyoming BCR 16: Total by compiling and jointly analyzing data from four strata.

Field technicians completed 21 of 24 planned surveys (88%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 210 point counts within the 21 surveyed grid cells between June 10 and July 19. They detected 102 bird species, including 14 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 164 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 39 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 46 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout Wyoming BCR 16: Total for 163 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 39 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 48 species.

We obtained results for All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 16 by compiling and analyzing data from one stratum.

Field technicians completed 6 of 7 planned surveys (86%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 56 point counts within the 6 surveyed grid cells between June 10 and June 28. They detected 52 bird species, including 9 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 113 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 24 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 11 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 16 for 114 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 25 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 12 species.

Wyoming BCR 17: Total

We obtained results for Wyoming BCR 17: Total by compiling and jointly analyzing data from six strata.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 441 point counts within the 36 surveyed grid cells between May 24 and June 24. They detected 122 bird species, including 28 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 174 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 45 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 33 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout Wyoming BCR 17: Total for 177 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 47 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 38 species.

We obtained results for All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 17 by compiling and analyzing data from one stratum.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 141 point counts within the 12 surveyed grid cells between May 24 and June 24. They detected 90 bird species, including 25 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 149 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 36 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 23 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 17 for 149 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 36 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 26 species.

We obtained results for Wyoming BCR 18: Total by compiling and jointly analyzing data from three strata.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 201 point counts within the 16 surveyed grid cells between May 26 and June 20. They detected 65 bird species, including 14 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 112 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 32 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 18 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout Wyoming BCR 18: Total for 112 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 32 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 19 species.

Field technicians completed all planned surveys (100%) in 2023. Technicians conducted 159 point counts within the 12 surveyed grid cells between May 26 and June 20. They detected 54 bird species, including 14 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities and population sizes for 104 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 25 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 16 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of 1 km² grid cells occupied (Ψ, Psi) throughout All Other Lands in Wyoming BCR 18 for 105 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 26 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 19 species.
