13  Bird Conservation Regions

In 2024, we had complete survey coverage across one Bird Conservation Region (Figure 13.1).

Bird Conservation Region 17

We obtained results for Bird Conservation Region 17 by compiling and jointly analyzing data from 31 strata.

Field technicians completed 188 of 193 planned surveys (97%) in 2024. Technicians conducted 2145 point counts within the 188 surveyed grid cells between May 18 and July 18. They detected 210 bird species, including 49 priority species.

Bird Conservancy estimated densities (birds per square kilometer) for 230 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 60 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust density estimates (CV < 50%) for 72 species.

Bird Conservancy estimated the proportion of occupied plots throughout Bird Conservation Region 17 for 230 species that were detected in any year during which surveys were conducted, 59 of which are priority species. The data yielded robust occupancy estimates (CV < 50%) for 85 species.
